Why take our classes

Problem: your child wants some pets, but you don’t. Answer: take zoology class and your child has an hour with different pets every week. Problem: very picky eater, won’t try new foods. Answer: take cooking class, see other kids trying/liking foods, try new food without a power struggle.   We don’t teach children the alphabet, then expect them to write a great novel. Yet with art too often we expect great talent to emerge fully formed, without instruction. Whether your child is a confident artist or nervously keeping track of how many of his pictures don’t look like what he wanted, our drawing classes will teach how to approach a drawing, where the focal point is, how to fill the page, where to devote time on details and the value of completing each drawing.

What do our parents say?

Lori’s son has enjoyed our classes since he started kindergarden. Here’s what she has to say.

Our son loves the self defense class, just like he loved zoology and woodworking.

What we do

Since 2001, Afterschool Cornucopia, a nonprofit corporation, has had the privilege of providing quality after school enrichment classes at various public schools in Culver City, California.

Who we are

Judy Richter, founder and executive director, started Afterschool Cornucopia in response to the shortage of after school enrichment classes in Culver City. Our teachers and site supervisors are experienced community members, educators and experts in their respective fields.
